General Information about the MA program:

We are pleased to announce that the call for application for a new generation of  two-year Master of Arts in International Relations has been launched.  This programme is an innovative graduate programme, taught entirely in English language, devoted to students that have a Bachelor background in Economics, Politics, International Relations, History at large and would like to acquire a specialized in-depth knowledge of the History, Theory and Methodology of International Relations.

This Master` s programme combines an academic approach with professional training, forging potential insightful consultants, analysts, while also offering a solid basis for further academic studies at the PhD level.

The Basis for Curriculum

Admission Requirements:

For Admission to the Master of Arts in International Relations students should have:

1) Bachelor`s (4-year programme) or Specialist`s (5-year programme) Degree

2) Fluent English language:

All prospective students have three options of confirming English language level-

a) In case English language is the official language of the country where you have completed your previous education (Bachelor`s or Specialist`s Degree), you don`t have to confirm English language level

c) At the end of August there will be an English placement test that you can take upon your arrival to Saint-Petersburg.

Before your arrival to Saint-Petersburg we need the following documents by e-mail (scanned documents) to fd@mail.sir.edu or the by regular mail to:

1) completed Application form for Master`s programme

2) completed Application form for Invitation letter

3) completed Application form for Residence Hall

4) completed Application form "Zayavlenie Rectoru"

5) copy of Bachelor`s Diploma with all courses, grades and hours translated into Russian language and notarized with Apostille or Consulate or Embassy legalization

6) copy of TOEFL or IELTS scores (if applicable)

7) copy of passport

Upon your arrival to Saint-Petersburg we need the following documents:

Please, note, that according to the Rules of Russian Federation Migration Service you need to visit International Department on the same working day of your arrival or the next working day (monday-friday) with passport,visa,medical insurance (valid within Russian Federation), migration card.

8) Certificate of Equivalence of your Bachelor Diploma from the Ministry of Science and Education of Russian Federation (to be enrolled you need the preliminary report which is made in 3 weeks, we need the certificate of equivalence before 1st February, 2011)

9) Letter from bank, proving student has exact sum of money for the education at the School of International Relations. The tuition fee is 140 000 RUBLES per academic semester.

10) Health insurance valid within Russian Federation

11) 15 passport-size photos

12) Medical certificate which is made at the student health center

13) AIDS-test (valid for 3 months)

14) 2 copies of signed Migration Rules within Russian Federation

Master of Arts Program in Interntional Relations

The two-year MA in International Relations is designed to develop a new generation of leaders who wants to combine a traditional knowledge of international relations with specific and profound understanding of both Russian domestic and foreign affairs. The graduates of this program are international affairs professionals who will pursue careers in diplomacy, public service, international organizations, and academic institutions.
 

The MA Program therefore provides students with a range of skills needed to understand the critical issues relating to international security, global governance, and to Russian position in the world politics as well.
The curriculum has two components: core curriculum and electives.

The program offers core courses relative to various conceptual facets of international relations. Students develop their ability to apply theories from international relations, international political economy, and international law to explain key global problems, and to contribute to current policy debates. The program offers elective courses on Russia’s relations with particular countries and regions and a myriad of its specific security issues. Throughout the program students are involved in understanding of Russian identity, Russian energy diplomacy, Russian foreign policy, Russian-European relationship, and etc.

Curriculum

The curriculum of the MA degree program is designed to provide students with analytical skills required by leaders in the major fields of international affairs.
The program of study requires 120 credit hours four semesters of full-time enrollment.

4. History and Research Methods in the field of International and Area Studies

Electives:
The courses cover a variety of urgent issues in the contemporary international affairs. The Programme offers more than 50 disciplines. They have functional, policy, and regional concentrations. Most of them deals with Russian foreign policy. The following courses are among the most popular electives:

3. Russia-US Relations
4. Russia and the East
5. Russia and the Caucasus
