Konstantin K. Khudoley, born in 1951, graduated Leningrad State University, the Faculty of History (1968-73); from 1973 became assistant professor, then associate professor at the Faculty of History. In 1991 he became full professor, head of the department of Political History at Leningrad (St. Petersburg) State University (in 1978 Candidate of Science in History, in 1988 Doctor of Science in History, full professor in 1990). From 1994 till 2010 he was Dean of the School of International Relations, St. Petersburg State University and since 1996 concurrently Head of the Department of European Studies. Since 2007 Professor Khudoley has been Vice-Rector of St. Petersburg State University. He is a member of the Academic Council and the Senate of St. Petersburg State University and Chairman of the Academic Council of the School of International Relations.
K. Khudoley is presently teaching three Master’s program courses: “Russian Foreign Policy in Europe”, “Post Soviet Space in World Politics”, and “Process of Transformation of Russia in the 90s” (in English). He has also taught at universities in the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Canada, the People’s Republic of China, the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden, and South Korea.
Over many years Professor Khudoley had conducted research in British history and politics. His Doctorate Thesis title is “The British Conservatives – from Progressive Conservatism to the New Right (domestic politics from the mid 60s through the mid 70s)”. Recently he has been studying the relations between Russia, the European Union and NATO. He has authored over 80 scientific publications many of which were published in Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, China, Slovakia, Finland, and Estonia.
Among his PhD students twenty five have successfully defended their PhD thesis and the title of Doctor of Science have been conferred on two of them.
Professor Khudoley is a member of “Vesnik of St. Petersburg State University” (scientific journal), and a member of two Doctorate and one Candidate Dissertation Councils.
He is a member of the Presidia of the Russian Association of Assistance to the UN, the Presidia of the Russian Association of International Studies, and Chairman of the St. Petersburg branch of the European Studies Association, the Association of International Studies, and the Association of Assistance to the UN. He is a board member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Relations (APSIA). He is also a member of the International Studies Association (U.S.), the Association of International Studies of Central and Eastern Europe (he was its first President).
Awards: the Order of Friendship (2008), the medal of the “Merits to the Fatherland” II degree (2002), medal commemorating the Tercentenary of St. Petersburg (2003), the insignia “Honorary Professor of Russia” (2002), “The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Russia: bicentenary” (2002), honorary diploma of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Russia (2004).
Additional Info: a deputy to St. Petersburg (Leningrad) City Council (1990-93), participant of the Summit of the “Baltic Development Forum”, consultant to a number of government and non-government organizations. Professor Khudoley is a frequent guest commentator on international issues in Russian and foreign Mass Media.
